The OT Solutions Architect - MES & SCADA is responsible for designing, supporting, and delivering MES and SCADA solutions across manufacturing environments. The role ensures that manufacturing systems integrate securely and reliably with enterprise IT platforms, following defined IT‑OT standards, cybersecurity requirements, and Industry 4.0 architecture.
This role provides solution ownership from the IT side for MES and SCADA initiatives, working closely with OT Automation teams and vendors to ensure solutions are designed, implemented, and operated in alignment with enterprise IT expectations. This role involves guiding the technical direction, creating high-level designs, and ensuring the successful implementation of the solution roadmap.
Develop the architecture artifacts and documentation to support business capabilities, high-level design, and detailed technical specifications. May include modeling, building block design, applications design, systems integration, etc. Design and present design options/considerations. develop proof of concept, modeling, and planning. Establish best practices around architecture, design and development. Ensuring the completeness (fitness-for-purpose) of the architecture.
Provide any ad hoc activities related to the e-commerce projects and not limited to the above activities.
Interaction with different business groups is vital within this role and requires an understanding of business processes, accounting rules and tax rules and regulations. Professionalism and cooperation when working with Customers, team members and management is essential.
Duties:
- Work with IT‑side solution architecture for MES – Sepasoft and SCADA – Ignition systems across manufacturing sites
- Ensure MES and SCADA solutions align with IT‑OT architecture, cybersecurity, and infrastructure standards
- Develop and maintain the enterprise MES/SCADA deployment playbook, including architecture standards, module selection criteria, implementation methodologies, and governance processes for Ignition and Sepasoft solutions.
- Create reusable site rollout playbooks, templates, and reference architectures to accelerate deployment and ensure consistency across manufacturing sites.
- Act as the primary IT solution owner for MES and SCADA when interfacing with OT systems
- Review and approve MES/SCADA solution designs for compliance with existing standards
- Guide vendors and system integrators on IT connectivity, security, and integration expectations
- Ensure proper integration of MES and SCADA with IT‑managed platforms such as historians, UNS, analytics, and enterprise systems
- Validate solution designs against Purdue / ISA‑95 models, DMZ patterns, and Zero Trust principles
- Partner with OT Automation teams to ensure machine‑level designs can be supported within IT‑managed environments
- Review and validate vendor deliverables including architecture diagrams, connectivity designs, and integration documentation
- Ensure solutions support and align with their modules and features to successfully deploy Industry 4.0 use cases such as traceability, eDHR, OEE, and analytics readiness
- Support IT infrastructure and cybersecurity teams in assessing risks and impacts related to OT system integrations
- Participate in design reviews, technical governance forums, and escalation discussions for MES/SCADA topics
- Collaborate with validation and quality teams to ensure solutions support FDA-regulated processes, audit trails, electronic records, and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements
- Ensure consistency and reuse of approved MES/SCADA solution modules, features across sites
- Support audit, compliance, and validation activities related to IT‑OT integrated systems
Key Responsibilities:
- Four-year degree in Information/ Operations Technology or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience working with MES and/or SCADA systems in manufacturing environments.
- Should have experience working with Sepasoft MES and Ignition SCADA.
- Strong experience operating from the IT side of OT systems, including understanding of servers, networks, integration, and security
- Experience working with system integrators, OEMs, and automation vendors
- Experience supporting MES/SCADA integration with: PLC‑based automation systems, Historians and industrial data platforms, Enterprise IT systems, MES and SCADA platforms (vendor agnostic)
- Experience with secure industrial data integration including OPC UA, Unified Namespace concept and understanding of ISA concepts for HMIs
- Clear documentation and communication skills
- Advanced ability to read, review Python scripts used in MES / SCADA to validate performance, scalability, and maintainability risks in vendor‑delivered scripts
- Advanced SQL skills for reviewing queries, schemas, and MES data structures
- Strong understanding of how MES transactions, genealogy, and audit data are stored and retrieved
Understanding of REST/API‑based integrations used for MES, analytics, and enterprise systems
