Job Title: Database Admin

Location: Cumberland, RI 

Duration: 6 Months contract Position

Rate: DOE

 

Job Description and Roles:

Responsible for maintenance and administration, enhancements, following change management policies, report capacity and availability, updation of the ticketing system and KEDB.

He is expected to train and mentor junior administrators. Maintains a roster for shift management (if applicable).

Expected to lead the team from transition to delivery and also work with Project manager for Infrastructure projects and SI work. Should engage in Continuous Improvement Projects or SIPs to improve productivity and SLAs. In Package Implementation space:

The incumbent leads and manage complex DBA projects, has expertise in new technologies, developments, database and application upgrades. Mentors and groom DBAs.

 

Role :

Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software(Grid Infrastructure, ASM, Database, patches etc)

Installation, configuration and maintain Steams and DataGaurd

Take care of the Database design and implementation

Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)

Perform database tuning and performance monitoring

Setup and maintain documentation and standards

Perform general technical trouble shooting and give consultation to development teams

Interface with Oracle Corporation for technical support.? Good understanding of the Oracle database, related utilities and tools

A good understanding of the underlying operating system(AIX, Linux)

Knowledge of ALL Oracle backup and recovery scenarios

A good knowledge of Oracle security management

Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle

Database Admin (L1) ,

 

Database Admin (L3): Independently performs database management tasks such as controlling access permissions and privileges. Responsible for ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly. Writes database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ,

 

Database Consulting (L3): Domain Skills: Database concepts Relational Database Concepts Normalization Entity and relationships Database administraiton activities Conversant with DBMS Packages Backup and Recovery Patching & Cloning Trouble shooting Backup Ability to design logical and Physical models of Database layouts and Schema. Performance Tuning Migration Techniques Knowledge on Replication Server HA Implementation Licensing Backup & Recovery

Vmware Admin (L1): CPU/Memory/LAN utilization thru Tools. Monitoring disk space quotas allocation. Monitoring File Systems & RAW Disk alerts. Documented activities (SOP based). Starting and stoping of VMs Password management. Monitoring & Managing network performance. Installing and Upgrading VMware Tools. Vmware Guest Backup. Starting the VI Client Stopping the VI Client Connecting to the Service Console ,

 

Database High Availability (L4): Design and Plan HA Strategy (High Availability -RAC / Cluster / Replication / DataGaurd / Standby /Database Failover strategy.

Database DR strategy /Flashback) How is it setup and configured What happens during a fail-over What happens during fail-back

When is it typically done? What are the steps a DBA should perform in the event of a fail-over and fail-back

 

Database Performance Tuning (L4): Database Memory I/O Tuning? Planning for Performance in Database Design Indexes tuning and Design Adviser. Configurations parameter tuning Table and index maintenance Data base

 

Essential Skill(s)

Oracle Admin (L2): Understand New Features in 10G. Generate Explain Plan, Interpreting TKPROF Output. Interpret Statspack report. Familiar with init.ora parameters Create,Rename a database Partition Tables and Indexes Move databases between servers,plan and size databases. Re-org of Database. Refresh Database using coldbackup, Hot Backup & Export/import. Maintain Standby database. Manage Oracle Streams
